Take off fishing early in the morning.

The waters in and around Loreto are considered by many as the world's finest big game fishing waters. Though there are literally thousands of different fish species in the Sea of Cortez, most fisherman come for the abundance and great size of Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail, and Roosterfish.

ă.. I just returned from my annual 2-week trip to Loreto, Mexico. It was called an off year because there wasnât any Sargasso, very cold water, and also very windy. Well for an off year my fishing partner Steve Jackson and I had a decent trip for a couple of fly guys surrounded by bait fisherman. We had to troll out big pink flies (the pink chicken) and with 14 wt. Fly rods we did manage to hook around 8 sailfish, and also hooked 6 marlin. The bait fisherman really did good they trolled live mackerel, most of them got sailfish and marlin daily plus large Dorados in the same day, also there was 4 women staying next door to us, the one lady on her last day caught 2 sails, one marlin and a 38 pound Dorado! Perhaps the year of quality not quantity?

"This was our first trip to Baja California Sur. The country and the ocean are so beautiful. The people are so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our first ten days at the Hotel Oasis. We then traveled to Mulege and Santa Rosalia. We had good fishing and were well treated. But nothing compared to our stay at your hotel. Daniel was always so helpful. Nick at the bar treated us like old friends. Daniel and Nick are treasures for the Hotel Oasis. All of your front desk staff was so kind and friendly. Just remembering the resturant staff makes us smile. It will be a privledge to fish with Martin Davis again.

We will be back again and tell everyone about the excellent experience we had at the Hotel Oasis!"

Weekly Fishing Report from October 6th through 13th, 2007

As of last Saturday until Wednesday we had strong wind from North-Northwest that made difficult for fisherman to go out because they found waves of 4 meters or more. Fortunately Friday and Saturday were much better due to winds of 6 miles NNW. We had 7 Pangas going out of the Oasis - 3 on Friday and 4 on Saturday - and headed to Punta Baja South Carmen Island and Bajo Las Boyas North Coronado Island. The Fisherman reported large schools of Dorado and Yellowfin Tuna on the Area North Coronado Island. They combined produced 28 Yellowfin Tuna the biggest 19 Pounds, 14 Dorado the biggest 23 Pounds - conventional and catch and released 30 Dorado, and last - even thou apparently doesn't count - 1 Marlin 130 Pounds lost after half hour of fight.

Anglers Daniel Morris y Joseph Morrison, Aaron & Matt Globerman, Gary Morris & Jeff Globerman, Mike Nielsen & Sherman Gossett, Steve Pattzer & Bruce Oldenberg. Captains were Isidro Mendoza, "Chacho", Martín David Castro y Francisco Martínez Castro.
